NAIRO Welcomes New Executive Committee Leadership Group

The leader in independent medical review appoints three leading experts to key posts.

May 17, 2017

The National Association of Independent Review Organizations (NAIRO), which stands at the forefront of independent medical review and utilization review in health care, announced changes to its Executive Committee with the appointment of three long-standing experts in the field.

NAIRO welcomes Aja Ogzewalla, CHC, who previously served as Vice President of the Executive Committee and Committee Chair of the Legislative Committee, as Executive Committee President, where she will steer the organization’s agenda and policymaking for the duration of her two-year term. Ms. Ogzewalla is currently the Director of Regulatory Compliance with the Medical Review Institute of America, based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In her previous roles with NAIRO, Ms. Ogzewalla collaborated with representatives at URAC, the Department of Labor and Employee Benefits Security Administration. She provided valuable insight on legislative and regulatory issues, standards revisions and court opinions affecting the IRO industry, and was a key contributor to several NAIRO white papers.

Taking over as Vice President of the Executive Committee is Ed Bolton, Chief Executive Officer of Nexus Medical in New Braunfels, Texas, and previous Chair of NAIRO’s Membership and Marketing Committee.

In his previous role as Marketing and Membership Committee Chair, Mr. Bolton, a retired U.S. Army service member who founded Nexus Medical in 2009, was instrumental in guiding multiple prominent outreach endeavors, including the release of the white paper, Understanding the Vital Role of Independent Medical Review and Utilization Review Services, in 2016.

NAIRO also welcomes Melody Petrul, R.N., a former member of the Legislative, Regulatory and Accreditation Committee, as Secretary of the NAIRO Executive Committee. Ms. Petrul is the Director of Medical Review Services for the Farmington Hills, Mich.-based MPRO, where she oversees Medicaid fee-for-service review contracts and all independent review services.

As the leader in independent medical review, NAIRO and its member organizations, which comprise URAC-accredited groups, provide objective, unbiased medical determinations, using board-certified medical reviewers, to help clinical and claims management professionals appropriately allocate health care resources.
